Nakagin Series Vol.2, 2023
Nakagin Series Vol.2 takes participants on a staged bus journey to the old colliery Unser Fritz 2/3 in Herne, where my capsule replica is placed and where a series of sound performances take place.During the bus journey, the radio play Nakagin Integration Co Ltd Series Vol.1 by MethLife, who wrote an auto-fictional audioplay about the Nakagin Capsule Tower while they were living in it, is playing. In the colliery, the capsule is installed in such a way that the arriving participants enter the black coop through the door of the capsule and the open capsule stands inside like a stage. The performers appear as inhabitants and the situation like an excerpt from the audioplay; the planned bus route synchronises selected locations with certain moments in the audioplay. The passages in the audio play describe Tokyo and the futuristic architecture of the Nakagin Capsuel Tower, which are audibly superimposed on the Ruhr landscape during the bus journey. Although the last coal mine was only closed in 2015, the Ruhr region experienced decades of structural change from the end of the 1950s with the start of the coal crisis. At the same time, the Japanese metabolists continued their transformation and planned the utopian architecture of the Nakagin Capsule Tower. Through Nakagin Series Vol.2, these contexts come together and are superimposed in time and space.
Nakagin Series Vol.2 is part of the Nakagin Series, a collaboration between the association About Repetion, the platform BRUTALISM and myself. The reconstructed capsule becomes a stage for various types of performance formats. This event was initiated, conceived and staged by me and took place on 11 November 2023 on a bus trip and in the Zeche Unser Fritz 2/3 in Herne, Germany.
