Auflösung
The installation Auflösung intersperses the entire flat inside an apartment building with a recurring sequence of spoken and sung numbers.
Thereby, a link between components of diagnostics (DemTect) and the therapy of dementia is established.
The apartment becomes a fictional example which, as a situation, blends with the encounter of me meeting the recent resident while moving out. I recognized her profound connection to her home which seemed to function like a materialized collection of memory and emotions.Consented, I refer and preserve this inscribed traces: the worn carpet which suggests paths that have been walked for decades; her curtains remained hanging, having been hung there for 39 years, being opened and closed over and over again; her wardrobe inside the bedroom with a drawing of her daughter on it.
A video installation in the old bedroom lets the visitor become a component of the work over whose face continuous subtitles are superimposed. The text reflects on a mother and lets the bedroom become a stage of a fictional narration.
In general, I address the dissolution of identity through dementia and the perception that one experiences as a participant (relative) in this process.
« who is my mother?
mama [...]
[...] as a child I often slept in your bed.
With the head under the blanket [...]
[...] everything shines red.
In the mirror I watched you sleeping.
Late I realized the similarity of our faces
half of me is you.
[...] Who are you? »
